Zipcar plans to expand its carsharing service to Santa Rosa for two years due to a $170K grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to the Sonoma County Transportation Authority, according to a report by the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.
The city council plans to sign a deal that will allow Zipcar to bring two rental cars to the city that can be rented online or via a smartphone, says the report.
With the grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, the Sonoma County Transportation Authority will provide subsidies to Zipcar to administer the program for two years, according to the report. The subsidy will be used to lower annual costs of membership, and Zipcar will be allowed to seek up to $72,300 per year in reimbursement.
