Zipcar Vehicle with Expired Tags Leaves Renter Stranded in New York
Salim Fields picked up a rental car with expired registration tags from a neighborhood location in New York that led to the vehicle being towed and Fields carless.
According to the New York Daily News, a rented Zipcar with expired registration tags was towed, leaving the renter, Salim Fields, stranded at the NYPD Navy Yard tow pound on Oct. 1.
Fields picked up a Honda CR-V to use for errands, but when he returned to where he parked the vehicle, a traffic agent told him to check for it at the tow pound.
Zipcar offered Fields a refund, cab fare and a day’s free car rental after the Daily News contacted the company for comments.
Spokeswoman Colleen McCormick of Zipcar said it was an anomaly as “the registration expired on Sept. 30 and the new registration sticker was not updated in time for the member’s reservation on the morning of Oct. 1.”
