April Fools!Thank you to Bandago for providing their creativity for this April Fools joke.

According to Bandago, last year its clients drove 7 million miles — enough to go to the moon and back 14 times. To celebrate this and the company’s 10th anniversary, Bandago is launching a contest for bands: “Be The First Band In Space!”

In conjunction with Virgin Galactic, Bandago will provide an all-expenses paid trip to space for up to four members of the band that wins the “Band In Space” contest. “The winning band will forever be enshrined in history as the first band in space, a designation that will surely result in hundreds of sales on iTunes and could lead to worldwide fame and recognition,” states the company’s announcement about the contest.

To enter the “Band In Space” contest, bands need to email Bandago at info@bandago.com with the subject line, "Band In Space," and also include:

  • Your band name

  • a list of up to four eligible band members

  • a link to a song that contains the following words: Gagarin, stars, Bandago, ping pong, kangaroo and police.

Entries will be judged on emotional content, originality, credibility and “hummability.” Extra consideration will be given to any song that uses any of the following instruments in a way that is particularly emotionally evocative: Kazoo, triangle, claves, piccolo, vibra-slaps, vuvuzela, heckle phone and slide whistle.

Entries will be accepted until April 1, 2014. Compelling entries will be posted on the Bandago website. Finalists will be presented publicly to the world, and a panel of musical experts will determine which of these songs is most likely to be appreciated hundreds of years from now, Bandago said.

Once the winning band is notified and Bandago receives the “go” from Virgin Galactic, a space flight will be booked, and soon after an “out-of-this-world” show will be played. The company’s current target date for the first band in space to play is April 1, 2015.
