Mayor Requests $16M for Electric Car Sharing
The city of Indianapolis and Indianapolis Power and Light have requested a $16 million rate increase to fund Mayor Greg Ballard’s proposed electric car-sharing program.
In order to fund Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard’s proposed electric car-sharing program, the city of Indianapolis and Indianapolis Power and Light (IPL) have requested that state regulators approve a $16 million rate hike, according to a report by the Indy Star.
The project would cost $12.3 million to install charging stations at 200 locations across the city and about $4 million to extend electrical lines to those stations, IPL Research Analyst Kimberly Berry told the Indy Star.
The electric car-sharing service would be the largest in the United States, says the report. The Bollore Group — a French conglomerate that runs a similar car-sharing program in Paris — will provide 500 plug-in electric cars and invest $35 million in the Indianapolis program, according to the report.
